CHAMBERSBURG, PA

While the saying may be that good fences make for good neighbors, in the case of two homes on East Washington Street, it's more like help from a nonprofit makes good neighbors.

Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County is preparing to move forward with its 32nd home, this time at 408 E. Washington St. - right next door to the last house the group finished at 402 E. Washington St., said Mark Story, executive director.

From the basement of a Habitat home, a house of God grows - By Phil Kloer (Habitat Int.)

In 1994, Keith Bowers wields a shovel while his wife, Michelle, and daughter, Amanda, supervise at the groundbreaking for their home.

By 10:30 a.m. on a typical Sunday, many in the congregation at Solid Rock Community Church have already been inside for a while, sharing informal fellowship.

Dressed casually, worshippers range from teenagers to folks in their 70s. Pastor Keith Bowers steps to the pulpit of the beautiful, old limestone church in rural Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and welcomes them all.

Graphics Universal Donates to Habitat for Humanity

Graphics Universal recently donated $1,200 to Habitat for Humanity. The organization is fundraising $63,360 to build another Habitat house in Franklin County. Money is being raised one quarter (.25) at a time. Four miles of quarters stretched out side by side is just enough money to frame and finish a new home with volunteer labor.

Daughter of a Habitat Partner Family Advances in PA Geography Bee

CHAMBERSBURG, PA

A Chambersburg Area Middle School South student is one of the top 100 geography bee students in Pennsylvania and will compete next month in Gettysburg.

Hermela Amdeta, an eighth-grade world geography student, will participate in the 2013 Pennsylvania Geographic Bee April 5 at the Eisenhower Hotel and Conference Center in Gettysburg.

Hermela is the daughter of Hirut Shikur and Shemsu Amdeta.

"It think it'll be fun," said Hermela of the upcoming competition.
